Baptisia spp This perennial leguminous genus is native to the eastern and southern US, occurring as far north and west as MN. Species may have blue, yellow, or white flowers. B. tinctoria (with yellow or blue flowers) is the preferred dye source, and perhaps consequently, threatened or endangered in much of its range. B. australis is the more common species, but makes a poor dye source. But it is a great cut flower that gets high praise from Armitage and others. Seeds Per Gram: 61
