In the long history of natural ideas, flowering plants get the prize for inventing advertising.
Quite distinct from warnings of stings or toxins, the importance of advertising as expressed by flowers is attraction. The message of flowers is attraction and mutual reward. The flowering plant is calling out its virtues to other species, to insects largely, but really to anyone who might help it persist in the light of this world in exchange for a little food or mood.
Flowers attract people almost as well as pollinators, and in the flexible exchange at which plants are so adept, flowers have become almost everything a plant breeder could imagine over the past two centuries. Every mutation and variation that presents itself becomes a new means of
expression for the flower breeder, and then the flower grower, and flower lover.
Flower seeds are much more diverse than vegetable seeds, and appreciably more difficult to grow, harvest, and process. They come in a wide range of sizes and rarity, requiring several means of measurement, from seed counts, to grams, to ounces. We apologize for any confusion this brings to growers contemplating their needs. We've included seed counts per gram and ounce beneath each species description, or alongside the taxa if there are multiple species.
All of this flower seed is organically grown by Wild Garden Seed. |
