Capsicum annuum Sweet salad peppers from yet another genetic rescue project at Gathering Together Farm. Joelene was mourning the loss of another good variety, this time a red Italian hybrid, and wondered if it was worth trying to create an OP-version of an F1 pepper. These selections here are the first wave of releases that answer that question; Yes. The genetic variations presented reveals the complex background of the hybrid. Red and yellow Italians, thick-walled blocky bells, red heart pimento, elongated bells, little yellow chilies, were all part of the outcome as the hybrid F1 went through six generations of genetic sorting into stable forms. Expect a little more variation to come out of these, but our trialers all liked the package. Seeds Per Packet: 50 Seeds Per Gram: 150 Seeds Per Ounce: 3,400-4,000 Oregon Tilth Certified Organic Seed

Classic Italian More curvaceous, full bodied, variably crowned, and blunt than the perfect model described above. Proudly less than perfect, but also less rumpled and crumpled than the rustic Italian clan. Earlier than Joeleneâ??s, more refined, but maybe not as sweet. pricing and more

few seeds. Remains gold even at full maturity.

Joelene's Rustic Italian When we started our "farmer's Italian" red pepper
project, this is pretty much what we had in mind—a
brilliant red with smooth skin, medium thick walls,
strong shoulders, fruits averaging 8-9 inches long,
tapering to a slightly blunted tip. An early, sweet
frying and roasting pepper that keeps long after final
harvests in October—we are usually eating these for
breakfast with egg... pricing and more

Lantern In my mind I call this elongate pointed bell Crayola® Orange-Red, my favorite color in grade school--but that might be infringement. But it also looks like a glowing Japanese lantern, a name that came easily. A good stuffing pepper, walls not too thick, and so productive that trellis would be a good idea, especially in tunnels. pricing and more

Stocky Golden Roaster A golden variation on the 'Stocky Red' theme. Broad, smooth, thick-walled, and sweet. These make 6" fruits in early sets, and can yield large numbers of smaller fruits in late sets. Perfect for roasting over coals. The skins roast evenly thanks to the smooth, uncrumpled surface of the fruit, which allows the cuticle to slip off cleanly. pricing and more

Stocky Red Roaster This is our Red Italian with refinement—selected
for straight uncrumpled sides, smooth skin, thicker
walls, and a rich red color. By far the quickest for
uniform roasting and easy skin removal, and the
thicker flesh holds up well to fire. Fruits are 6-7"
long, 2¼" broad at the crown, sweet, heavy fruiting,
and long keeping. Fewest seeds of all these types.
