Origanum spp This perennial herb is native to dry alkaline soils of the Mediterranean. There are 50 or more species, with a lot of confusion around nomenclature. The most common species, O. vulgare has pink or purple flowers, and makes an inferior cooking herb, better used as a cut flower. Among the tiniest seeds we sell. Germinate on soil surface at 70°F, transplant at 12” apart. “Oregano” translates as “joy of the mountains.”
